SMP Basics 101

Welcome to the Iridium Network's SMP Gamemode! This first tutorial will walk you through the very basics that any player starting out should be aware of, and set you up for success while playing on the SMP.

First, lets go over the item you spawned in with:

The Wiki Book

This is potentially the thing that led you here to begin with! It's to make people aware that this wiki exists and that you should be reading it.

The Golden Shovel

The golden shovel is essential to both protecting your items as well as setting up your base on the SMP, as it allows you to create and modify Land Claims.

Leaving Spawn

Now that you know what and why you have the items in your inventory, it's time to head out into the world and make yourself known! Thankfully, you don't have to walk several thousand blocks just to find an empty plot of land, you can use one (or more) of these very useful commands.

/tpr

This command teleports you to a random location within 10,000 blocks of spawn once every 30 minutes.

/warp

This command, when paired with a location (/warp aga) will teleport you to a location defined by the staff team, sometimes these are much further out in the world than the spawn area.

/tpa

This command, when paired with a player name (/tpa glasscrab) will send a teleport request to that person that they can accept or deny. If anyone is far out into the world they may let you teleport to them to skip the walking or the randomness of /rtp.

Player-made Warps (WIP)

Players will be able to make their own warps similar to the /warp command, but this most likely won't be avaliable on release.

Now that you've learned how to find a spot to live, lets go over how to make sure nobody can destroy what you've built.

Claiming Land

Land Claims are a rectangular plot of land that only you (and people you add to it) can break or place blocks in. When you hold your golden shovel in your hand, and right click on the ground, it prepares the first corner of the rectangle, which will highlight in glowstone. Right clicking in a different spot will mark the second corner as well as complete the claim. A claim must contain at least 100 square blocks of space (10x10, 5x20) and must also be at least 5 blocks thick.

Placing a chest will also give you the option to claim the land around it, but claiming via the shovel gives you much more control over the size and shape of the area.
